DATICAN Holds Hackathon 4.0 at the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, Lagos
DATICAN Hackathon 4 took place from April 6th to 12th, 2025, at the Conference room in the Tetfund building at Lagos State University College of Medicine, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.
The event was attended by DATICAN principal investigators, trainers, and trainees. The hackathon began with an opening ceremony that included speeches from Professor Godwin Ogbole a DATICAN CO-I, Dr. Olukayode Aiyeniko, the HOD of the Computer Science Department at Lagos State University and Professor Aribisala, the Program Coordinator.
Key activities included research presentations by DATICAN faculty and Masters trainees, as well as a series of lectures from DATICAN trainers. The lectures covered topics such as systematic reviews, brain imaging interpretation for computer scientists, performance metrics, online repositories and paper writing, machine learning, deep learning, problem statements, aims and objectives, results and discussions in academic papers, MSc dissertation writing, and brain extraction and segmentation of the hippocampus using MRI. A coding competition was held for all trainees, Nawas Adam and Tola Ajagbe won the top prize in the coding competition.
Hackathon 4 concluded on April 11th with a closing ceremony, awards and certificate presentations. Overall, participants expressed satisfaction and a strong interest in attending future DATICAN Hackathons.
